Recently, Chamberlain Garage Door Openers company came out with a "Whisper Drive" garage door opener, which operates using a belt-driven system that utilizes rubber instead of a metal chain to reel in the door,  ostensibly making it quieter than it would otherwise be.

The installation of this piece of equipment is fairly straightforward (although obviously correct tools and expertise are a must). And it is indeed much quieter than any screw-drive or chain-drive opener, although that is the nature of the rubber belt. And it's not THAT quiet- it's almost impossible to move such a large hunk of object as a garage door without making SOME noise.

It also comes with quite a few fancy features, like remote controls that have three functions (or so they say- we're not really sure what the two extra functions are). The opener does have a nifty keypad you can install on the outside of the garage to get in without having to use a remote, just your combination, and obviously the whole thing has rolling-code security, as every modern garage door opener does. It also comes with a one-year warranty, which is typical of such machines.

All in all, it seems like a nice, well-constructed piece of equipment. Whether or not its worth the extra money is up to the individual, and how much the sound of a garage door opening annoys you.
